The fifth and most recent Dead Rising game includes more characters and settings than any of the other games; going over the previous four games, all set in one place in time. The game's main storyline is centered around a character named Sophia Kang. Kang Hong-Mo of the Hong Kong Police, while on a routine assignment to cover the U.S. Presidential visit to Hong Kong, was kidnapped by an unknown assailant who caused her to be grafted with parts of his body and became a cyborg. Her new body gives her the ability to shapeshift, limber as an Olympic gymnast from her human form, and able to utilize a new exo-suit, though she can still survive without her exo-suit. The main plot happens as she investigates who is behind the kidnapping, and the plot itself seems to be a deconstruction of Contagion, among others. Sofia can also shapeshift human, zombie and mutant forms.
