How to Use EZdrummer 2 to Create Realistic Drum Tracks
EZdrummer 2 is a virtual drum instrument that you can use either on its own or as a plug-in within your digital audio workstation (DAW). It allows you to create realistic drum tracks with ease, using a variety of samples, kits, MIDI loops and editing tools. In this article, we will show you how to get started with EZdrummer 2 and how to use its features to create your own drum tracks.
Setting Up EZdrummer 2
After registering and installing EZdrummer 2, you can launch it as a standalone app or load it as a virtual instrument track in your DAW. All of the functions remain the same in both modes[^1^]. If you want to practice or sketch out some ideas, you can use the standalone mode. If you want to record or mix your drum tracks, you can use the plug-in mode.
If you have an external MIDI controller, such as a keyboard or an electronic drum kit, you can use it to trigger EZdrummer 2. You will need to connect your controller to your computer via USB or MIDI cable, and then select it as the input device in EZdrummer 2's settings menu. You can also assign different MIDI notes to different drum sounds using the MIDI learn function[^1^].
Navigating EZdrummer 2
EZdrummer 2 has four main sections: Drums, Browser, Search and Mixer. You can switch between them by clicking on the tabs at the top of the interface.
The Drums section shows you the drum kit that you are using. You can click on any drum or cymbal to hear how it sounds. You can also drag and drop different drums from the library on the left to customize your kit. You can adjust the volume, pitch and decay of each drum using the knobs below them[^1^].
The Browser section shows you the MIDI loops that are included with EZdrummer 2 and any expansion packs that you have installed. You can browse through different categories, such as genre, style, time signature and tempo. You can preview any loop by clicking on it. You can also drag and drop any loop to the Song Track at the bottom of the interface, where you can arrange your drum track[^1^].
The Search section allows you to find MIDI loops based on what you play on your controller or keyboard. You can tap out a rhythm or a groove and EZdrummer 2 will show you matching loops from its library. You can also use keywords, filters and tags to narrow down your search results. You can preview and drag and drop any loop from here as well[^1^].
The Mixer section allows you to adjust the levels, panning and effects of each drum channel. You can also choose from different presets that emulate different mixing styles and environments. You can solo or mute any channel, and send it to different buses for further processing[^1^].
Creating and Editing Drum Tracks
Once you have selected a drum kit and some MIDI loops, you can start creating your drum track using the Song Track. The Song Track is a timeline where you can arrange your loops in different sections, such as intro, verse, chorus and outro. You can add new sections by clicking on the plus button at the top of the Song Track. You can rename, duplicate, delete or move any section by right-clicking on it[^1^].
You can also edit your loops using the Edit Play Style window, which opens when you double-click on a loop in the Song Track. Here you can change the velocity, timing and complexity of each drum hit using sliders and knobs. You can also add or remove hits using the Power Hand and Amount controls. You can also use the Tap2Find feature to replace a loop with a similar one based on what you play[^1^].
If you want to create your own loops from scratch, you can use the Track Creator feature. This feature allows you to record your own performance using your controller or keyboard, and then automatically splits it into separate loops for each section of your song. You can then edit and arrange these loops as you wish[^1^]. aa16f39245
