LeafGuard and LeafFilter both offer quality gutter guard systems, but they serve different purposes. We recommend LeafFilter for customers who need to add gutter guards to their existing gutter system. The micro-mesh filter keeps your gutters clear of small debris and provides long-lasting protection against water damage.
We hear this question from a lot of homeowners, and unfortunately there is no such thing as a maintenance free guard product. Although having guards can significantly decrease the maintenance, as you will no longer need to clean the interior of your gutter system, (with the right guards) but you will still need to brush off the top of the guards to remove the leaves and debris that will inevitably pile on top of the guard. In some cases patience is key. With rain, the falling leaves can get hung up on the guards but as they dry out, most of the time they will blow off on their own. If a contractor is stating that their product is maintenance free, they should have this information clearly spelled out somewhere in their terms and conditions and explain what exactly it means. We have a bunch of free information on guards (we use Rhino) on our blog, as well as some red flags to be aware of when dealing with contractors. See below.
In addition to causing water buildup, the defect allegedly causes debris to accumulate on top of the gutter filter. Plaintiffs in the case say they had to pay out of pocket for gutter cleaning and even the removal of the LeafFilter system.
I hired a contractor to install leaf filters on my gutters. Shortly after the installation we had a thunderstorm hit. Water overflowed all along the gutters and not from the downspouts. This water entered into my garage. I called the owner of the contractor. He came out while it was still raining. Shortly after the installer came back out. He blamed the downspouts were clogged. We cleaned out the downspouts and the installer did more work. We had no other thunderstorms. In the winter it snowed. Large icicles were forming along the front and rear portions of the house. We took pictures of the icicles and sent them to the installer. He stated he would come out. He was a no show. We called several times with no return phone calls. We went to the Home Show and the installer had a booth. I spoke with the owner he stated when or if icicles formed again to contact him. He would come out and see what was needed to correct the problem. On three occasions we took photos sent them to him and have made calls to him. No responses have been made for the past two years
I just had to replace AC/Heat pump compressor R/T water overflow from Leaf filter gutter which pours water directly on outside unit instead of draining into downspout. The entire installation of the 2018 system has ruined all of my decks with huge amount of runoff directly onto area that I never had a problem with before. Please add me.
Having problems with leaf filter on my house. This problem started with one leak and now there are several others. I have their technicians to come out several times but without success. The jusy want to keep sendind people out.
Put completely new gutter system on our shop 14ft high and had the filters added to our 2 story house 12k! They gater debre and the rain pours over the edge of the gutters! What a sales pitch! We paid allot to still have to clean our gutters!
We have the same issue overflow of rain and clogging of our gutters. We even had them install new 4 inch gutters in our courtyard and are still continuing having the same problem of over flow of rain. Plus where the new gutters are and where the leaf filter is and the seams they are staining our new gutters.
Most practical Gutter leaf filter that prevents the downspout from clogging up. The debris will collect on top of the filter, and the water will flow through. A Gutter strainer is supposed to prevent gutter spouts from getting blocked with leaves. The common leaf filter or strainer becomes the problem than the solution. When a strainer is getting clogged by debris, then the problem just escalates.
This filter prevents the downspout from clogging up even with all the leaves and debris on top of the strainer. It is designed to let small debris through and hold back bigger leaves and twigs. Water will filter through the leaves and debris under the filter, which flows freely to the gutter spout.
Remove the white paper and replace it with a layer of leaf material, making sure the leaf completely covers the slit. You may need to tape the leaf over the end of the spectroscope to prevent light from leaking around its edges. Point the slit end toward a bright light source (not directly at the sun). Does the spectrum you see look different now Add another piece of the same type of leaf to the one already covering the slit of the spectroscope. What do you notice Add a third leaf of the same type. How does what you see now compare with the full spectrum
Green plants appear green because the leaf pigments are reflecting green light. Green light is also transmitted, but it is not absorbed. As you added layers of leaf material, parts of the spectrum were no longer visible, as the plant leaf absorbed them. Blue light is absorbed (not transmitted) when the light passed through only one layer of leaf material. More blue and some red are absorbed by two layers of leaf material. Through three layers of leaf material, only green is transmitted, indicating that both blue and red are absorbed. The most important plant pigment is chlorophyll-a, which exhibits a grass-green color, and absorbs light in the blue and red parts of the spectrum. The absorption of chlorophyll-a peaks at wavelengths of 430 nm (blue) and 662 nm (red). It occurs in all photosynthetic organisms except photosynthetic bacteria. Chlorophyll-b exhibits a blue-green visual color and its absorption peaks at wavelengths of 453 nm (blue) and 642 nm (red). It occurs in all plants, green algae, and some prokaryotes. There is usually about half as much chlorophyll-b as the -a variety in plants.
Each successive layer of leaf material transmits some percentage of the green light. When you add a second layer, the percentage that is transmitted is squared, not doubled. A third leaf layer transmits the cube of the original percentage. For example, if 70% of the green light is transmitted through one layer of leaf material, two layers will transmit 49% (70% x 70%), and three layers will transmit 34.3% (70% x 70% x 70%) of the green light.
Leaf filter gutter screens let only tiniest particles into the gutters through holes as small as 50 microns diameter. This design prevents small shingle particles from entering gutters. After some time, they do create a sludge that must be manually removed. Pollen, dirt, roofing oils, and shingle grit can clog the micro mesh screens which causes water to be restricted from entering the gutter trough fast enough during heavy rains. This can cause water to spill over the edges of the gutter, run down the siding and windows of the house. Water can then accumulate and pool around the foundation of the home if this problem persists. The micro mesh on the leaf filters must be cleaned off so that water can seep through the screen without restriction. 59ce067264
